"ANGELS" too live in our society they help us in different ways Sh. Balwant Singh and Smt. Jaswant Kaur are the angels in our society, their entire family is devoted for the cause of blood donation. Smt. Jaswant Kaur established "Baba Sheikh Farid Blood Donors Council (Regd.) Mohali" in April 1994 to encourage more and more people for blood donation by spreading awareness among the masses. She got inspiration from Sh.Inderjit Sharma of Faridkot, National Awardee in the field of Blood Donation.
The council has so far organized 46 blood donation camps and approximately 8000 blood units have been collected for Blood Bank, P.G.I, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Sec. 32, Chandigarh, General Hospital(Sector-16,Chandigarh) for needy patients. Council also encouraging people during their blood donation camps to donate eyes and 2500 forms for Eye Donation has already been filled during such camps.
The couple has donated blood 47 times till date together at the same time and at the same venue. The couple has donated four times a year on an average. Their name as a couple blood donors being national record has been entered in "Limca Book of Records-2005" and has got the honour for the 1st couple blood donors of India. The couple has donated their bodies after death to the Anatomy Department of P.G.I for research as a gift for the cause to the society on their 23rd Marriage Anniversary. Their son Amandeep Singh and daughter Sandeep Kaur donated blood 20 and 15 times respectively.
